Welcome to Kilvarock! The goal of this site is to provide the IDL community with leading edge tools and books that will be useful to both scientists and developers. We believe that the development of third-party products using IDL is crucial to the overall advancement of the scientific community. It is really quite logical, the more tools a scientist has to experiment with, the more likely he/she is to discover something new. Why not be the first to analyze magnetospheric particle distributions with wavelets, or use genetic algorithms to looks for current patterns along the shore? Some of the software on these pages is free, but most must be purchased. This is not an attempt by the developers to get rich but to justify the enormous amount of time that it takes to write a truly outstanding application. In addition, receiving money for their work encourages them to continue to produce new applications.
